6th grade Religion (about 30-40 minutes):
1. Using the following link, choose two saints who have a January feast day. (Once you follow this link, you can scroll down on the page and find a January calendar. You may choose any date in January, and you may choose two different January dates.)

In your own words, write or type a short summary of the saint(s) that includes the following:
-
- The saint’s name
-
- The saint’s feast day
-
- Is the saint the patron saint of anything?
-
- What did he/she do in his/her life that makes him/her a great role model of our Catholic faith?
2. Come up with a rough draft idea for a poster for Catholic Schools Week (to be created later) with the theme “St. Norbert School is special because...”
This work will be collected when we are back at school, so be ready to turn it in or share it with me if you did it on a Google doc.

Natural Selection exercise: (about 30-40 minutes)
Look out a door or a window and make observations about any living things you see.
Make a list (either on paper or a Google doc) of the type of organism (i.e. gray squirrel, cardinal, human, pine tree - don’t forget that plants are organisms too!) and how that organism has adaptive or non-adaptive traits for survival in cold weather. What behaviors does the organism display to survive in this cold environment? Be as specific in your observations as you can! We will discuss these when we are back at school, so be prepared to turn in/share your list. (You should have several organisms on your final list!)
From the Amplify glossary:
adaptive trait: a trait that makes it more likely that an individual will survive in a specific environment
non-adaptive trait: a trait that makes it less likely that an individual will survive in a specific environment
